Next time you are suffering with Asthma, try visiting a Chiropractor! Most people in Columbus, Worthington and Lewis Center don’t know that in the majority of asthma cases, there’s absolutely nothing structurally wrong your lungs, you are simply not functioning properly!
Our patients in Columbus Ohio always ask, well if there’s nothing wrong with my lungs…why do I have asthma?? The actual problem that many people experience is that the contracting reflex of your lungs is caused by your brain sending a message down your spinal cord to your lungs. That means that if there’s a disruption with the communication in your nervous system, it could create asthma symptoms. In the case of asthma, the neck and upper back area provide the nerve connection to your lungs. Chiropractors are trained to find these areas of nerve irritation, interference, or pinching. The technical term for this is called Subluxation. Chiropractors discovered that when bones in the spine become misaligned, nerve interference is created in a variety of different ways. In this article, we’ll cover 3:
- Physical compression: As the vertebrae shift out of place, the connective tissues surrounding the nerve which hold it in place are compressed, therefore compressing the nerve inside. This creates the asthma symptoms. Consequently, those tissues also are made to protect it from harm, feed the nerves nourishment, and even help to repair the nerves when the chiropractor removes the pressure.
- Inflammation: As the nerve compression from above happens and asthma symptoms begin, the body creates inflammation in the area. This will cause the asthma to be more intense, and for the duration to be longer. After receiving a chiropractic adjustment, the pressure is removed from the nerve and the inflammation can subside.
- Neuroplastic Central Sensitization: If subluxation has existed in the body for more than only a few days, the brain starts rearranging synapses (nerve connections). This causes the body to be more sensitive to pain signals and other irritants, causing more inflammation from less compression or smaller amounts of irritants. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper synaptic connection and function!
